Share Your Voice to Help Build Better Research Communities
If you’re a student or researcher working in a laboratory in Canada, you’ve likely experienced both the highs and lows of academic research. Maybe you’ve had great mentorship, supportive colleagues, and access to the resources you need. Or maybe you’ve struggled with unclear expectations, lack of career guidance, and a system that seems to evaluate you while giving you little say in return.
At PositionScale, we believe that research success isn’t just about data and discoveries—it’s about the people behind them. That’s why we’re launching the 2025 National Lab Experience Survey, designed to uncover the realities of life in Canadian research labs.
Why Are We Doing This?
Many universities and PIs assess students’ progress, but how often do they ask for your feedback on their leadership, mentorship, and support? If you’ve ever completed a university satisfaction survey only to see no meaningful change, you’re not alone. The problem isn’t just individual frustrations—it’s systemic. Too often, student concerns about mentorship, training quality, and career development go unheard or unaddressed.
This survey is different. We want to capture real, unfiltered insights to help create better research environments for students and early-career researchers. The results will be compiled into a report that will be shared with PIs and university administrators to highlight what’s working—and what’s not—so that real improvements can be made.
Why Should You Participate?
- Your voice matters. This is your chance to share your experiences and advocate for real change in university research environments.
- It’s more than just another survey. The results will be used to push for better mentorship, training programs, and career support structures.
- Incentives! As a thank-you for your time, we’re offering a chance to win one of five $100 gift cards.
How to Take the Survey
The survey is open until March 15, 2025. It takes just a few minutes to complete, but the impact could be long-lasting. Your input will help shape the future of research in Canada.
